Evaluation
Whilst on this course, I have explored and learnt
about many personal interactions within the digital world and how they help to
create interesting narratives and how the art of persuasion draws in audiences.
With these skills I’ll be able to take forward in the future on my course. I
have developed skills which enable me to produce innovative designs using a
range of digital media sites to fashion interactive narratives, posters,
reinventing narratives and developing narratives through transmedia.
I thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the non-linear
storytelling and transmedia sessions. Both sessions shown me a very different
take on storytelling and how it can be constructed. During the non-linear storytelling
session, I was drawn in most by the twine task because it showed me how
interaction between story and audience can be formed. It was compelling due to
the freedom to create what I wanted using what I learned from the past sessions.
I felt the same with the transmedia task; in both sessions I drew heavily on
the second session focusing on visual design as the art of design attracts
people in based on what they see: colour, text or images as these are essential
in selling an idea or product. I reflected heavily on this idea through non-linear
storytelling because, I included videos from the film ‘Frozen’ to help tell the
story but also so the audience could engage with the narrative. The second
time, I included images to highlight important elements it some life. In
conjunction with this, in the transmedia task colour was a great learning
aspect for me when designing the YouTube channel for Rapunzel because I
manipulated the colour purple for the audience perception of the character to identify
how it’s symbolic to the character.
Session three didn’t have as much of an effect on me
as the other sessions have because, I feel there wasn’t a range of techniques
being perused and it wasn’t very interactive as the other tasks. This session
proved to me my area of interest lied with the creative side of media,
producing my own designs. One area did resonate with me during this session
which was the recreation of a fairy-tale. We used Pixar’s spine theory to
recreate a story of own where my group based it off Snow White. The
significance of this task was to form a narrative reflecting modern society; I
learnt from this area of the session narratives can be constructed from narratives
that have already been created such as Frozen being adapted from The Snow
Queen.
Overall, this module is useful for Film, TV and
Digital Production because when brainstorming ideas for a film we could take
the idea from session three of moving image and semiotics to take a narrative and
use Pixar’s spine theory to re-imagine a story. As well as this, I can take
this idea further in my future career; if I were working in a Lionsgate
production I could base a film off a book series for example ‘The Darkest
Powers’ by Kelley Armstrong and use the spine theory to bring forward the key
moments of the story. When creating future films I can use the knowledge of how
importance colour and text is when manipulating a mood and atmosphere for the
scene and how it will draw in the audience.
After taking part in this module I have gained a variety
of valuable skills and techniques. For my media rich project I have made the decision
to take on transmedia further rather than the twine task as I enjoyed this a
lot and I feel there is more experimentation with advancing my skills with
transmedia. My aim is to focus on the extinction of snow leopards through either
a creation of a website or an interactive poster. I’ll draw focus on facts
about snow leopards, their habitat and how they can be protected. I’m possibly
drawing closer to an interactive poster to experiment with interaction through images with Visme in hope to evoke an emotional response from viewers convincing them to save the
animal.
